Will your child be waking up in a room filled with imagination and delight? You can make it so with just a couple of carefully chosen pieces of furniture, some complementary paint selections and a few whimsical choices of fabric. Begin with a focus piece - It is important to start with one item from which you can pull the whole design together. If you choose a hand painted piece of kid's furniture like a child's toy chest or a kids rocker, that selection will have a design and color scheme from which you can develop a fun and creative room that will be a great source of inspiration and imaginative play for your child. Choose colors from your focus piece -I am thinking of a child's toy chest decorated in soft blues, fire engine reds, warm oranges and a funky lime green with cream accents that pull all of the colors together. Matching the wall color to the soft blue will provide a wonderful background for the room's decor. Next, choose that soft cream color for the woodwork color. You now have the perfect backdrop from which to begin designing a room for stimulating your child's creativity. It's always fun to hunt for bargains -What about using a bed and chest that you found at a second hand store? The pieces should be sturdy with simple lines. Paint them the fire engine red. Fabrics soften the design - Also, visit your favorite fabric store to find a striped cotton print with the same colors as the child's toy chest. It will be easy to make your curtains using a rectangular piece of fabric the length of the window and three times the width. Hem it around the four sides. Then choose a ring clip in one of the bright colors and you have a drapery that is simple to make and will hang elegantly at your window on the cream wooden dowel rod that you placed at the top of the window frame. Make tasks easy for your child - The bed covers should be a simple comforter and pillows so that, as you begin teaching your child to make their bed, it will be an easy task for them and allow you to feel comfortable turning over the responsibility. The color of the comforter will be one way to direct the tone of the room. If you want the room to be a bit on the wild side, choose the funky lime green for the color and use accent pillows of red, blue, orange and cream. A comforter chosen in the soft blue with matching pillows will be quieter and give the room a totally different look. This is also a great way to change the appearance of the room without doing a great deal of redecorating. The room comes together - Now it is time for some very fluffy floor rugs to provide a soft place for play and additional color. For our room design sporting a color splash, choose the orange color to complete the accent choices in the room. You can also choose rugs to match the spread or the wall color. Color your child happy with this whimsical room. When your child wakes up, you will be hearing cheerful sounds coming from such a bright and happy room and it will last through the day as the wonderful color inspires and delights your child.
